Project 67000 is a blog dedicated to raising awareness of Kidney Disease. I chose the number 67000 because that is the number of people who die every year from Kidney Failure. Kidney disease is a silent killer. One of the silent diseases, most people show no outward signs of this terrible disease. People suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease as a result from Diabetes and those who suffer from polycystic kidney disease look as normal as you and I do. The effects the disease has on their body is devastating. Below is a list of some of the complications of PKD:
- High blood pressure
- Anemia
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Recurrent kidney infection
- Kidney stones.
- Kidney failure, mild to severe
- End-stage kidney disease
- Bleeding or rupture of cysts
- Infection of liver cysts
- Liver failure, mild to severe
In the above picture, a healthy kidney is on the right, on the left is a diseased polycystic kidney. When someone tells you they have polycystic kidney disease, remember this photo. While your kidney is roughly the size of your fist and is healthy. They are carrying a kidney that looks like that in their body. Just because they Don't "LOOK" sick does not mean that they are not ill. Project 67000 wants to educate people on the severeness of the disease and raise peoples awareness.
